Q

Can anyone use the Household Waste Recycling Centres?

A

You need a permit to use any of our four Household Waste Recycling Centres. If you don't have one, you will be allowed to use a Centre if you can provide proof of residency of the district. You will then need to make arrangements to get a permit. See "How do I get a permit to use the Household Waste Recycling Centres?" below.

Current Wakefield Council Residential Permits are still valid at Household Waste Recycling Centres.

If you own a van, a pick-up  or a trailer larger than 1.8m x 1.2m (6' x 4'), you will need to get a commercial vehicle permit before you can dispose of any household waste at our Household Waste Recycling Centres.

A commercial vehicle permit will allow you to use your van or pick-up on up to 12 visits per year free of charge. For more information on obtaining permits see below.

Q

Can I take a van/trailer to the Household Waste Recycling Centre?

A

Vans and trailers of up to 6ft x 4ft  carrying household waste and not commercial waste can use any of our centres. When you visit, you’ll need to take along your vehicle registration documents and proof of residency of the district (e.g. recent utility or Council tax bill) to show that you’re a Wakefield resident. If the van is hired you’ll also need to take a copy of the hire agreement, or if you’re using a company van you’ll need a letter of authorisation from the organisation. You can be issued with up to 12 permits per year to bring a van or a trailer to our centres.

Q

What are the opening times for the Household Waste Recycling Centres?

A

You can find these via the Household Waste Recycling Centres page.

Q

Where can I find out what can be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centres?

A

For details of what you can recycle and where, please check the individual sites on the Household Waste Recycling Centres page or call 03458 506 506.

Q

Why is the Household Waste Recycling Centre shut when a skip is emptied?

A

We use heavy machinery to empty the skips and this could put people at risk. The process normally takes around 30 minutes. Sometimes this has to happen during the site’s opening times and we apologise for any inconvenience it may cause.
